Welcome to João Camilo's Blog
Why I started this blog and what you can expect from these technical deep-dives into real-world software engineering.
Software engineering is often taught in vacuums. We learn about algorithms in isolation, design patterns in clean-room environments, and architectural principles that assume infinite resources and zero legacy constraints.
But in the real world, systems don't live in vacuums. They live in production.
João Camilo's Blog is a space dedicated to the messy, complex, and deeply rewarding reality of operating software at scale. This isn't a place for "Hello World" tutorials. It's a place for:
- Post-mortems that actually go deep into the "why".
- Architectural blueprints for multi-tenant SaaS that handle the edge cases.
- Observability strategies that go beyond just having a dashboard.
- Pragmatic DevOps that prioritizes delivery and reliability over hype.
The Philosophy
The name of this blog is intentional. We aren't just "building software"; we are building systems that must survive the harsh environment of production. This requires a different mindset—one that values:
- Pragmatism over Perfection: Knowing when a "good enough" solution is actually the better architectural choice.
- Observability as a First-Class Citizen: You can't manage what you can't see.
- Resilience by Design: Assuming failure will happen and building to survive it.
What's Next?
In the coming weeks, I'll be sharing deep-dives into our recent migration to a schema-per-tenant architecture, the hidden complexities of building a real-time event tracking system, and how we manage technical debt without slowing down product velocity.
I'm glad you're here. Let's build something that lasts.
